The Honduras Agape Foundation
Our goal is to manifest the love of Jesus Christ to the people of Honduras by providing medical and health care and education, resources to construct homes and care for the children and other support for the community of believers.
Background:
In late 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated Honduras and other parts of Central America. In early 1999, South Aiken Presbyterian Church in Aiken, SC, began a foreign mission ministry to Quimistan, Honduras. The first mission team went to assist in the rebuilding of homes that were destroyed by the hurricane. Since then other church congregations have joined the effort and established "Sister Church" relationships with the Agape Church in Quimistan, Honduras. The Agape Church is led by Pastor Rene' Jerezano. In an effort to support this community, mission teams have built a well and water tower to provide clean drinking water. Teams have also constructed a medical clinic for utilization by short-term mission teams and local physicians who provide medical treatment. Each year missionary teams build cement block homes. This effort has provided twenty two new homes for needy families. Four classrooms have been built to support a childrens program provided by the Agape Church. The construction of a kitchen.
Since the beginning in 1999, these mission efforts have grown into an collaboration that includes various
churches and civic groups throughout the Southeastern United States and Canada. Rapid growth and participation
by diverse organizations necessitated the establishment of a separate non-profit foundation to manage the future
work. In January of 2003, The South Carolina Project Agape Foundation was formed.
The foundation currently has members from throughout the US and Canada. In 2007, the Board of Directors
decided to change the name of our foundation. In order to reflect the growth of our organization, the SC
Project Agape Foundation has been renamed the Honduras Agape Foundation.
The Honduras Agape Foundation is a 501-3c non-profit organization dedicated to sharing God's love and supporting
our sisters and brothers in Honduras.
